Project type: Custom web application for finding the right plug or sensor for a vehicle
Timeline: Approximately four months
Tech used: Custom PHP application on Silverstripe
Key result: TBC
Challenge
Before any digital tool existed, NGK's coverage data lived in ad hoc data sheets and spreadsheets kept by the engineering team.
The first web version got it online, but it was really just a straight copy of an old CD-ROM product, it was built on an old version of PHP, and every data import required a developer. It was also starting to look dated next to tools from other manufacturers.
Theplan
Version 1 had brought the tool online. Version 2 was about doing it properly.
Bigfork moved it onto a modern content system with real import tools, replacing the old manual updates, and gave it a visual refresh to match the rest of the NGK website. The project took around four months to complete.
Theproduct
For customers, Part Finder shows the right plug or part for their vehicle. It also helps people switch suppliers: enter a competitor's product code, like a Bosch part number, and it shows the matching NGK part.
Behind the scenes, NGK's team can now import data straight from a spreadsheet instead of typing it in by hand and fix single rows without touching anything else. Since the site covers thousands of products, we built a bulk image tool that automatically matches photos to the right product, saving a huge amount of manual work. Downloads and videos can be added the same way.

We have worked with Bigfork for over 10 years and the team have continued to excel with the work they have completed for NGK. Nothing is too much trouble with any ongoing developments to our Part Finder site, with changes always actioned very efficiently.
